Tyler Posey Joins NBC's Line of Fire for Multi-Episode Arc
Tyler Posey is joining NBC drama Line of Fire for several episodes.
Variety exclusively reported the casting on Sept. 22, meaning it was first to the news ahead of any wider announcement, Variety. A multi-episode guest arc means Posey will appear across several instalments without joining the regular cast. He will first be seen in the fifth episode, scheduled to air on Oct. 19.
He plays Brandon Hayes, an agent with the NSA. The initials stand for the National Security Agency, the American intelligence organisation focused on code and communications. Hayes is not introduced as a desk-bound analyst. He served overseas as a Marine, and that service shapes who he is when he arrives.
That service gives him history with someone already on screen. While in uniform, Hayes formed a close friendship with Russell Hollingsworth, played by series regular Taylor Bloom. The friendship is characterised as close and long-standing, and it provides the reason Hayes walks into the story, according to Variety.
The timing is early in the life of the show. Line of Fire premiered on NBC on Sept. 21, the night before the casting report was published. Episode five lands less than a month into the run. That is a quick introduction for a recurring player, and four episodes will have aired before his entrance.
The regular ensemble was in place for the launch. The series stars Peter Krause, Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O'Brien, Taylor Bloom and Charlie Barnett. Krause and Davis lead the billing, with Cunning, O'Brien, Bloom and Barnett completing the regular line-up. Posey slots in alongside them rather than replacing anyone in that group.
Behind the camera, the series was created by Joshua Safran. A creator originates the idea and sets the tone for the writers and directors who follow. Safran executive produces alongside Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector. An executive producer oversees the creative and organisational running of a show, from story to staffing. Universal Television is the studio, the company that physically makes the series, according to Variety.
For viewers, this means a date to note. Mark Oct. 19 on the calendar. That is when Hayes meets Hollingsworth on screen and an old Marine friendship is brought into the present-day story.
