Ella Langley's 'Choosin' Texas' sets Hot 100 record with 23rd week at No. 1

Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" has spent a 23rd week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the United States songs chart that combines sales, streams and radio play. That total makes it the longest-running No. 1 in the chart's history, Billboard confirmed on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The 23 weeks are nonconsecutive, meaning the song lost the top spot and then returned to it. The run moves "Choosin' Texas" past Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You," the previous all-time record-holder.

It has been a long climb. "Choosin' Texas" entered the Hot 100 in November 2025 at No. 39. It first reached No. 1 in February.

Twenty-three weeks. Langley marked the moment on Instagram Story. She reshared a graphic showing previous record-holders, added teary-eyed and mind-blown emojis, and wrote "23 weeks" and "Absolutely insane."

The record caps a summer where the song never left the summit. Billboard named "Choosin' Texas" its No. 1 Song of the Summer for 2026 after it logged 11 consecutive weeks at No. 1 from the July 4 chart onward.

Along the way it also passed Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day" for the most weeks at No. 1 for a non-holiday song. That distinction separates year-round hits from seasonal records that return each December.

Progress came in stages. The song ruled the Aug. 15-dated Hot 100 for a 17th week, which at the time gave it sole possession of the fourth-longest command in Hot 100 history. It then reached a 21st week at No. 1 in early September, a milestone Langley also acknowledged on Instagram Story.

What makes this stand out is staying power across three seasons. A November debut, a February arrival at the top, then a summer of holding the position.

The track appears on "Dandelion," Langley's second album. The set spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the US albums chart that ranks albums by sales plus streaming equivalent album units, the measure that converts plays into album sales. To date, it has logged 18 weeks at No. 1 on Top Country Albums.

Langley wrote "Choosin' Texas" with Miranda Lambert during a writers' retreat. It was the first time the pair had written together.
