Kara Swisher says she will leave CNN over Paramount ownership
Kara Swisher says she is finished with CNN.
The journalist and Pivot podcast host told co-host Scott Galloway she is done with the network when her contract is up at the end of the year, and perhaps much sooner, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Swisher said she has asked her agent to get her out of the deal. She said the contract ends on 31 December.
She tied the decision to Paramount and its chief executive David Ellison. She said she does not want to work for Ellison and his father Larry if Paramount takes over CNN through its parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.
Her language was blunt. She said she thinks the Ellisons are terrible media owners. She added that she would rather work for Rupert Murdoch.
Swisher has been a CNN contributor since 2023, meaning a paid on-air commentator who appears across coverage rather than a full-time presenter. Her recent work for the network included the six-part original series Kara Swisher Wants to Live Forever, which premiered in April.
She laid out the plan on the Tuesday episode of Pivot released on 22 September, as noted by Yahoo. It was not the first warning. In March she said she would leave if Paramount bought Warner Bros. Discovery and took control of the network.
For viewers, this means a familiar tech voice is preparing to disappear from CNN's air. Swisher has not named a next landing spot. CNN has not publicly responded to her comments.
