Christiane Amanpour to Leave CNN in June 2027 After 43 Years

Christiane Amanpour will leave CNN in June 2027 after 43 years with the network.
The chief international anchor announced the decision on 19 October 2026, according to CNN. She will stay on air until the June sign-off. That long notice gives the network eight months to plan what follows.
In her exit statement, Amanpour called CNN her partner of 43 years, as reported by Variety. She said the decision followed many months of thought and sleepless nights. She added that she looks forward to interesting new projects.
She ended with advice for journalists. Always be truthful, not neutral.
She started at the bottom. Amanpour joined CNN as a news assistant on its foreign desk, the team that supports correspondents reporting abroad. She rose to become chief international anchor, the network's senior journalist on global stories. It is a role built on reporting, interviews and live coverage from the field.
Since 2009 she has hosted an evening interview programme for CNN International, the network's feed for viewers outside the United States. Since 2017 she has also hosted Amanpour & Company for PBS, the American public broadcaster. The two programmes made her a nightly presence on both sides of the Atlantic.
Outside television, she hosts a podcast, The Ex-Files, with Jamie Rubin. The news of her departure spread quickly. Media commentator Brian Stelter posted that she is departing next June, according to Mediaite.
CNN chief executive Mark Thompson said he and Amanpour had discussed her departure for some months. CNN described her as a CNN legend in its coverage of the announcement. Thompson did not name a successor.
The news follows a change in ownership. CNN is coming under the control of Skydance. Skydance is grappling with billions of dollars in debt, according to Variety.
For viewers, this means Amanpour remains on screen for now. Her interviews continue until June. What makes this stand out is the length of the run. Few presenters stay with one news organisation for four decades, from assistant to anchor.
