Prime Video's The Challenger Adds Six to Cast

Prime Video's 1980s-set NASA drama The Challenger has added six actors in recurring roles. William Fichtner, Kevin Carroll, Eric Lange, Adelaide Clemens, Louisa Jacobson and Hunter Burke join the limited series, meaning a drama designed to tell one complete story in a set run. A recurring role means appearing across multiple episodes without being billed as a lead. Deadline reported the six castings as an exclusive on 23 September.
Fichtner plays Nobel physicist Richard Feynman, with Carroll as physicist Professor Arthur Walker. Lange plays General Donald Kutyna. Kutyna sat on the Presidential Commission on the Space Shuttle Challenger Accident, the panel that investigated the loss of the shuttle and its crew.
On the astronaut and family side, Clemens plays NASA astronaut Rhea Seddon for the US space organisation. Burke plays astronaut Steve Hawley. Jacobson plays Tam O'Shaughnessy, the partner of astronaut and physicist Sally Ride. Ride is played by Kristen Stewart, in what is her television starring debut.
The Challenger is inspired by Meredith E. Bagby's 2023 book The New Guys. Set in the 1980s, it follows the events leading up to the Challenger disaster. It then tracks the investigation that followed, alongside Ride's journey as the first American woman in space.
Maggie Cohn created the series and serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner, the person who oversees day-to-day creative work. James Hawes directs and also serves as executive producer, a senior role that helps shape both the shoot and the final cut. Kyra Sedgwick and Valerie Stadler executive produce for Big Swing Productions, while Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey executive produce for Amblin Television.
The six join a large ensemble already announced. That group includes Will Arnett as George Abbey, Danny Huston as William Rogers and Sofia Black D'Elia as Judy Resnik. Paul Sparks plays Larry Mulloy, Boris McGiver plays William 'Bill' Lucas and Shea Whigham plays Roger Boisjoly. Stewart leads a cast that mixes astronauts, officials and investigators.
For viewers, this means the world around the flight and the inquiry is filling in. Small roles. Big history.
