Six actors have joined Prime Video's The Challenger, the limited series built around astronaut Sally Ride and NASA's early shuttle crews.

Pat Healy, Chinaza Uche, Dave Davis, Jordan Bridges, Kevin Isola and Adam Aalderks have been cast in recurring roles, meaning they will appear across multiple episodes rather than as series leads. Deadline reported the six additions as an exclusive.

Healy will play Arnie Aldrich. Uche will play Ron McNair. Davis will play Bob Crippen. Bridges will play Jesse Moore. Isola will play Al McDonald. Aalderks will play Robert 'Hoot' Gibson.

The series was created by Maggie Cohn. It is inspired by Meredith E. Bagby's book The New Guys, which follows the group of astronauts recruited in the late 1970s. Kristen Stewart stars as Sally Ride, the first American woman in space.

Cohn serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner, meaning she leads the writing and day-to-day creative decisions. James Hawes directs and executive produces, a senior credit covering creative and production oversight. The show comes from Big Swing Productions, Amblin Television and Nevermind Pictures.

The Challenger is made as a limited series, meaning it is designed to tell its story in one self-contained season. No premiere date or episode count has been announced in the report.

For viewers, this means the ensemble around Ride is now taking shape. The new names sit alongside the flight crews, engineers and officials who surrounded the shuttle programme in that era.
