UK leads International Emmy nominations as Heated Rivalry misses out
The United Kingdom leads this year's International Emmy nominations with 14 nods. Brazil is next with nine. Spain follows with five, according to Variety. The counts were confirmed when the International Academy announced its list on 23 September.
The Academy named 64 nominees in total. They are spread across 16 categories. The programmes come from 22 countries. Winners will be announced at the 54th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York on Monday, Nov. 23.
The International Emmys honour programmes made outside the United States. That is the key point for new viewers. The Primetime Emmys focus on US prime-time television. The two contests run separately, with different entry rules.
In drama series, Disney+'s "A Thousand Blows" has made the shortlist. In comedy, Netflix's "Man vs Baby" is nominated. Both titles sit inside the 64-strong field. Each must now wait until November for the final decision.
One much-discussed submission did not make it. Bell Media/Crave's "Heated Rivalry" was put forward for consideration. It was not among the nominees. It missed out.
The series had already found a US audience, where it ran on HBO Max. It could not enter the Primetime race. The reason is eligibility. It was a Canadian commission, meaning a Canadian company ordered and paid for the show, with no US production partners.
The US awards field has also taken shape. Nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced, according to ABC News. In that race, "The Pitt" collected 25 nominations. "Hacks" follows with 24, as reported by Reuters. Those totals sit entirely outside the international contest.
Last year's international cycle followed a similar calendar. Nominees for the 53rd International Emmy Awards were announced on 25 September 2025, with winners named on 24 November 2025 in New York City, according to the International Academy. The pattern is familiar. A September shortlist, then a November gala.
What makes this stand out is the spread. Fourteen nods for one territory is a strong lead. Nine and five for the next two leave a long tail. With 22 countries represented, many viewers will find a local programme alongside the global streamers.
