World of Warcraft: Forever's Smelting Pants cut early smelting time by 25 percent

A pair of trousers is speeding up one of the slowest jobs in World of Warcraft. The Smelting Pants, found in World of Warcraft: Forever, cut smelting time for copper, tin, bronze and silver by 25 percent, according to Eurogamer. The find was shared on the World of Warcraft Classic Reddit.
Smelting is the process of turning mined ore into metal bars at a forge. It sits inside mining, an optional trade skill the game calls a profession. A 25 percent cut matters because early metal tiers demand many repeated smelts, each with its own cast time at the forge.
The pants themselves are modest leg armour. The listing describes leather legs with 69 Armour, item level 21, a Level 16 requirement, plus +5 Stamina and +4 Spirit, per Wowhead. Item level is the game's shorthand for overall power. Level 16 keeps them in reach of new characters still working through early metals.
They also bind when picked up, which means they cannot be traded to another player once collected. They are listed as a rare drop, a term players use for an item that appears only on some kills. Their exact location in Forever is currently unknown.
Long-time players will recognise the name. In Classic World of Warcraft, Smelting Pants are looted from Gilnid, the head smelter working for Edwin VanCleef. No gear with profession boosts of this type exists in Classic.
That idea comes from the modern game. Recent expansions added profession equipment that gives boosts to crafting and gathering skills. Forever is building on that approach.
It includes the legacy talent Bountiful Harvest, which increases materials gathered from mining, herbalism or skinning, as set out by Blizzard. Herbalism is gathering plants, skinning is gathering leather from beasts. A separate updated item from the Deadmines allows players to mine without holding the mining profession.
World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled for full release on 4th November. The drop location for the pants has not been confirmed.
What makes this stand out is how narrow the bonus is. It applies to four metals and nothing else. That keeps the pants useful for a stretch of levelling rather than for the whole game.
For fans, this means small choices about what to wear while working. A low-level character could keep the trousers in the bag for forge visits and swap them in. It is a small bonus, but one that speaks to time spent on routine tasks.
