Xbox has a new top honour on the way: the Mythic Achievement.

Files pointing to the feature were found in an update to the Xbox PC app, the storefront and launcher for playing Xbox games on computers. The find points to Xbox's equivalent of PlayStation's Platinum Trophy. That is the special award PlayStation players receive for unlocking every other trophy in a game. Microsoft has not officially confirmed the Mythic Achievement, according to Eurogamer.

The discovery was flagged by Xbox watcher Klobrille. The files include a new symbol, a star set inside laurels, long used as a mark of victory. They also include a 15-second unlock sound.

It sounds big. IGN described the effect as longer and more majestic than the standard achievement pop, with audio that whooshes in and builds. Users found the logo and sound cue in the app update released on 22 September 2026, according to Polygon.

What makes this stand out is the ceremony. A standard unlock is quick and familiar. A 15-second cue with a build suggests something meant to feel like a finish line.

Achievements are in-game goals set by developers, such as finishing a story chapter or completing a difficult challenge. Players who chase every goal in a favourite game are often called completionists. On Xbox each achievement normally adds to a player's Gamerscore, a running points total across games. Mythic Achievements will work differently.

They are worth zero Gamerscore, according to TrueAchievements as reported by Eurogamer. The same report said they will apparently be retroactive. That would mean players who have already completed all the standard achievements in a supported game would receive the Mythic automatically, without replaying.

The leak follows a public hint from Xbox leadership. Xbox leader Asha Sharma said the team is working on something for later this year when asked about a Platinum Trophy equivalent. No official name, date or list of supported games has been announced.

For fans, this means bragging rights may soon look different on Xbox. A zero-point award puts the emphasis on completion itself, not the scoreboard. For completion hunters, a retroactive Mythic would recognise that work at once, with no extra grind required.
