All ten roles are now filled for the world premiere of The Sorcerer's Apprentice musical.

The announcement confirms the company for the show's first full live staging at HOME in Manchester, where it will run from 27 November 2026 to 2 January 2027. A world premiere means the production has not been seen on stage in this form before. It is presented by producer James Seabright, according to WhatsOnStage.

The musical has book and lyrics by Richard Hough, the story structure and the words the cast will sing and speak, and music by Alexander S Bermange. It is directed by Kirk Jameson. The piece takes its starting point from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's poem "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", the 18th-century tale of a young magician who loses control of a spell.

The setting moves that old story to a Scandinavian town facing collapse. HOME describes the show as a gender-swapped twist on the timeless story, placing a young woman at the centre of the magic (HOME). That framing keeps the familiar idea of magic running out of control, but changes who holds the power.

The show has already been heard in another form. It was first released in a digital format in 2021, made to be watched and listened to online rather than in a theatre building. This new version for Manchester features additional material written for the stage and will be performed live by a cast of ten.

Emma Salvo leads the company as Greta, the apprentice at the heart of the story. She is joined by Sophie-Louise Dann as Lamia and Imogen Craig as Eva. Kai Davies will play Erik, Mateo Oxley will play Fabian and Mark Rice-Oxley will play Johan, completing the six named parts.

The remaining four performers make up the ensemble, the company members who play smaller roles and fill out crowd scenes around the principals. Josh Rosewood is cast as Male Ensemble 1, with Jacob Beresford as Male Ensemble 2. Adriana Da Cunha is cast as Female Ensemble 1, with Sharlise Fitzgerald as Female Ensemble 2.

For audiences, this means a festive-season chance to see a new British musical take its first live steps. The run spans five weeks across Christmas and New Year at one of Manchester's main arts venues.

What makes this stand out is the route to the stage. Few new musicals move from a digital-first release to a full Christmas run with a compact ten-strong company. Manchester gets the first live staging in this expanded form.
