Phoenix Wright is going virtual, but he is retrying an old case.

Capcom has announced Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies VR, a remake of the 2013 courtroom adventure redesigned for VR headsets. It keeps the same cases and storylines as the original, rather than introducing a brand-new mystery, according to early details Video Games Chronicle.

The game is scheduled for release in 2027. It will be available on Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro and the upcoming Meta VR Glasses.

For newcomers, the series is a courtroom adventure. You play as a defence lawyer, investigate crime scenes, examine evidence and cross-examine witnesses to clear your client. In this VR version, crime scene investigations become explorable 3D spaces you can look around and move through.

Controls offer two options. The game is fully playable with standard VR controllers. It also supports hand-tracked gestures, where cameras on the headset follow your hands so you can point and interact without holding anything.

Then there is the shouting. The remake includes optional voice activation for Wright's favourite catchphrase. Say "OBJECTION!" out loud and your in-game lawyer delivers it.

The launch will include five languages. The game will debut with English, French, German, Japanese and Korean language support Anime News Network.

The announcement extends a long wait for a wholly original entry. The last entirely new Ace Attorney game was the 2017 spin-off The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve.

For fans, this means a familiar story told from a new seat. You will not get fresh defendants or new twists. You will get to stand in the courtroom itself.
