High on Life Is Getting a VR Port in 2027 — and You Can Pet Your Talking Guns

The comedy shooter High on Life is coming to virtual reality, with a full VR port announced during the VR Games Showcase on August 13, 2026, and a launch window of 2027.
Squanch Games, the studio behind the original 2022 release, revealed the port via its official Instagram account the same day, confirming it is "COMING 2027" for three platforms: Meta Quest, PlayStation VR2, and SteamVR. Meta's own announcement narrows the Quest target to the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets. Players can already wishlist the game across all three storefronts ahead of launch. (GameSpot, UploadVR)
If you missed High on Life the first time around, the premise is straightforward: you play a bounty hunter armed with a set of sentient, talking alien weapons — each with its own personality, voice, and opinions about what you are doing. The game leaned heavily on the comedic sensibility of its co-creator, Justin Roiland, and became a breakout hit on Xbox Game Pass when it released in December 2022.
The VR port is being built by Flat2VR Studios, not Squanch Games itself. Flat2VR is essentially rebuilding the game from the ground up to work in VR, rather than simply adapting the existing camera and controls. That means reworking how movement, aiming, and interaction all feel when you are inside a headset instead of looking at a screen. (GameSpot)
The most attention-grabbing detail from the announcement trailer — a behind-the-scenes look that premiered at the showcase — is that the port lets players physically stroke and feed their talking weapons. In the original game, the guns chatter at you constantly. In VR, you will apparently be able to reach out and pet them.
Emily O'Neil is serving as game director for the VR version. Flat2VR Studios is also separately working on a VR port of System Shock, based on the 2023 remake of the 1994 original, making the studio a name worth watching in the growing space of ports that rework flatscreen games for headsets.
For fans of High on Life, the appeal is obvious: the game's whole hook was the personality of its weapons, and VR puts you directly in front of them. For the broader VR market, a known comedy hit arriving across all three major headset platforms in 2027 adds another recognizable title to a library that still leans heavily on a handful of marquee names.
A specific release date within 2027 has not yet been announced.
