Catherine, Princess of Wales stepped out in Essex in a sharp fall outfit to spotlight addiction recovery.

The princess visited the Forward Trust in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, to mark Addiction Awareness Week, according to Town & Country. She has served as patron — the royal term for an official supporter and advocate — of the organization since 2021. The visit put the focus on people in recovery and the staff who work with them.

Her look was classic autumn workwear. She wore a houndstooth blazer by MaxMara with chocolate trousers by Joseph, identified as the Coleman style. She finished the tailoring with simple jewelry: Cartier Trinity earrings and a necklace by Laura Lombardi.

The shoes did a lot of work. She paired the suit with penny loafers from Boden, the affordable British brand known in the United States for preppy knits and flats. The style was reported to be the Nya penny loafer, according to Good Housekeeping.

The pair is chocolate-brown, a soft alternative to black that has become her go-to for fall, as noted by Vogue. Brown loafers match almost everything. They also handle cobblestones, school visits and charity centers better than heels.

What makes this stand out is how repeatable it is. A checked blazer, dark trousers and flat loafers are easy to find at any price. The princess often leans on that formula for daytime engagements that involve a lot of standing, listening and walking through meeting rooms.

The Forward Trust visit continues a long thread in her public work. Addiction is one of the causes she took on early and has returned to often since becoming patron in 2021. This time, the clothes stayed quiet so the conversation could stay front and center.
