Belmont Cameli will play Brom Bones opposite Sydney Sweeney in Sony Pictures' film adaptation of Hollow, Deadline reported on 24 September 2026.

Sweeney is set to star as Katrina Van Tassel. Cameli's Brom completes two points of the story's central romantic triangle, with Ichabod Crane still to be cast at the time of the announcement.

Hollow is a reimagining of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow told from Katrina's point of view. The classic Washington Irving tale usually follows schoolmaster Ichabod Crane and his rivalry with the rough-edged Brom over Katrina, and this version puts her at the centre of that triangle, according to earlier reporting by Deadline.

The film is based on a forthcoming debut novel of the same name by filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer. She will also direct the film and adapt her own book for the screen.

The novel is due to be published by Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in autumn 2027. That means the screen adaptation is moving ahead well before the book reaches shelves, a timetable that is becoming more common for high-profile literary properties.

Behind the camera, the producers include LuckyChap alongside Beer and her Lab Brew banner and Sweeney herself. Sweeney will produce through her Honey Trap banner, with Hollow serving as the company's first film as a producer.

Honey Trap has a first-look deal with Sony Pictures, an agreement that gives the studio the first chance to take on projects developed by Sweeney's company. Deadline first reported the original Hollow package and Sony's involvement.

No release date has been announced, and the search for Ichabod Crane was still under way when Cameli's casting was revealed.

What makes this stand out is the structure. One filmmaker is writing the novel, writing the script and directing the film, while its star is also coming on board as a first-time film producer. For fans of a favourite old ghost story, it is a familiar triangle told from a different chair.
