First Look at Bosch: Start of Watch Shows Young Harry Bosch in 1992 Los Angeles

MGM+ has released first-look images of Cameron Monaghan and Omari Hardwick in Bosch: Start of Watch, a prequel that goes back to the start of the detective's career. The series premieres on Sunday, January 10, 2027, according to Deadline.
The show is set in Los Angeles in 1992. Monaghan plays Harry Bosch, a 26-year-old rookie cop in his earliest days on the job. Hardwick plays Eli Bridges, a veteran officer. The story is based on the bestselling book series by Michael Connelly, who also executive produces.
Monaghan has described the series as "unexplored territory," in coverage from Entertainment Weekly. That phrase suggests a period of the character's life that the existing books and earlier screen versions have not covered in depth. A prequel is a show that takes place before the events of a story people already know.
Viewers will get the eight-episode season in two stages. Two episodes arrive on January 10, and then one new episode each week until the finale on Sunday, February 21. A weekly schedule means the whole season runs for about six weeks.
The cast also includes Ariana Guerra as Rosa and JD Pardo as Cory, both series regulars. Kathleen Wilhoite, William Fichtner, Seamus Dever and Shelli Boone are among the other names listed. Tom Bernardo serves as showrunner, the writer and producer who runs the day-to-day creative work on the show. He co-created the series with Brian Anthony. Fabel Entertainment produces it.
MGM+ first greenlit the project as a new prequel in October 2025. A greenlight is the studio's decision to make a series, and it usually comes before any filming starts.
Where you can watch depends on where you live. MGM+ will carry the series in the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Latin America.
For now, the first-look images and the January date are the main news. The premiere is still more than two months away, and the release pattern could shift before then. What is fixed is the schedule that has been announced: two episodes to open, then weekly episodes until February 21.
