First Madden trailer shows Nicolas Cage as coach, broadcaster and game namesake

Nicolas Cage becomes John Madden in the first full trailer for Madden, a biopic written and directed by David O. Russell.
Amazon's Prime Video released the trailer on 24 September 2026, according to Deadline. The clip runs 2 minutes 15 seconds on the Prime Video YouTube channel under the title "MADDEN - Official Trailer | Prime Video". Its description reads "Football wouldn't be football, without Madden" and points viewers to watch the film on 18 November.
The trailer traces three careers in one life. It starts with Madden's run as head coach of the Raiders, the professional American football club, and then follows him into the broadcast booth where he became a long-running television analyst.
Then it turns to games. The trailer shows the early talks that led to the football video game series that still carries Madden's name. John Mulaney plays Trip Hawkins, the founder of game publisher Electronic Arts (EA), who approaches Madden with a prototype.
In this telling, Madden says no at first. The prototype does not field 11 players per side, the full number used in a real American football match, and he refuses to put his name to anything less complete, according to GameSpot.
Cage leads an ensemble cast. Alongside Mulaney, the film stars Christian Bale, Shane Gillis, Kathryn Hahn and former running back Marshawn Lynch.
For players who know Madden only as an annual sports game, this is the origin story behind the title. The name on the box belonged to a coach and broadcaster before it belonged to a franchise.
Madden is set for a cinema release in select theatres on 11 November, followed by a streaming release on Prime Video on 18 November 2026, according to IGN.
