Universal Basic Guys Season 3 adds Jay Pharoah, Cheri Oteri and Adam Devine

Jay Pharoah, Cheri Oteri and Adam Devine will guest star in Season 3 of Universal Basic Guys, Fox's animated comedy about brothers living on a basic income.

They lead an eight-person guest cast confirmed ahead of the season launch, as reported by Variety. The announcement sets up a busy run of new faces for the Hoagies brothers to meet, argue with and lean on across the coming episodes.

Pharoah plays Hugh Truckner. Oteri plays Renee. Devine plays Chase Waters. Guest roles like these usually last for one episode or a short run, rather than the whole season, which lets a show bring in a lot of characters quickly.

The other five guests round out the list with characters already named. Thomas Lennon plays Antoine Shmegmin. Brandon Wardell plays Darren. David Alan Grier plays Ferris. Joe Lo Truglio plays Bouchard. William Stanford Davis plays Earl. All eight will appear as new additions during Season 3.

Season 3 premieres Sunday, Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Episodes will stream on Hulu the next day, giving viewers who miss the broadcast a quick catch-up option. That next-day window has become the routine way many people watch broadcast animation.

The casting news was shared at SCAD Animation Fest in Atlanta. Series creators Adam Malamut and Craig Malamut were there to screen the season premiere, an episode titled Rhoda, for festival audiences before it reaches television.

The series centres on Mark and Hank Hoagies, two brothers both voiced by Adam Malamut. After losing their jobs to automation, the pair start receiving $3,000 a month through a basic income programme. In short, they get a monthly payment whether they work or not, and have to figure out what to do with the time.

The regular voice cast also includes Talia Genevieve as Tammy Hoagies, Ally Maki as Andrea and Fred Armisen as David. The show was created by Adam Malamut and Craig Malamut and is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment.

For fans, this means plenty of fresh energy around a familiar setup. Eight guest characters points to a season full of new neighbours, co-workers and local oddballs crossing paths with Mark and Hank. Short stints keep an animated town feeling big. With the premiere only days away, viewers will not have to wait long to meet them.
