Barcelona rule out move for Man Utd teen JJ Gabriel

Barcelona will not try to sign Manchester United teenager JJ Gabriel.
Sporting director Deco closed off the link on 24 September. He had met with Gabriel's agent, but insisted the Spanish club will not pursue a deal.
"We are not interested in any player in his situation," Deco said, as reported by BBC Sport.
That is a blunt answer to a loud story. Gabriel is only 15. He has told United he wants to leave Old Trafford. He has not trained with the club since 10 September.
That date matters. On 10 September, Gabriel scored a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut. That competition is the under-19 version of the Champions League, played alongside the senior tournament. Three goals on a first appearance at that level will turn heads fast.
He turns 16 on 6 October. His father is a former Republic of Ireland international. His mother has Greek-Cypriot heritage.
United manager Michael Carrick has asked for calm around the teenager. He urged people to be "careful and sensible" about the exposure and scrutiny placed on Gabriel, according to BBC Sport. He is still a school-age player, learning the game under a harsh spotlight.
The Barcelona meeting added fuel to the talk. Deco sat down with Gabriel's camp, a meeting noted by Yahoo Sports. In football, that kind of contact often sparks rumours of a coming bid. Here, Deco says it means nothing more.
Other giants are still being linked. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain are among the clubs reported to be keen on Gabriel. For now that interest is reported interest only, not confirmed offers.
There is also a practical limit. UEFA Youth League rules mean Gabriel cannot play for another side in this season's competition. He is tied to United for this campaign, even if his future lies elsewhere.
What makes this stand out is the age. Fifteen-year-olds do not usually dominate transfer talk. A debut hat-trick changed that. So did the decision to stop training.
For fans, this means patience. Barcelona are out. United still hold his registration. The next step will wait until after his birthday, and perhaps much longer.
