Phoebe Bridgers surprise-released “On Video” on Friday, Sept. 25, a new song written specifically for the film Primetime that plays over its end credits.

The track arrived without advance warning. It is Bridgers’ contribution to the soundtrack, the music written for and featured in the film, according to Billboard.

Primetime is director Lance Oppenheim’s first narrative feature. It is described as a psychological crime thriller centred on Chris Hansen, the host of To Catch a Predator. The story is based on the 2007 Esquire article “Tonight on Dateline This Man Will Die.”

Robert Pattinson stars as Chris Hansen, the Dateline NBC correspondent. Merritt Weaver plays Andie Bender, Hansen’s Dateline NBC producer.

Bridgers pulls double duty on the project. The film is her acting debut. She plays Del Harvey, a young decoy based on the real Perverted Justice volunteer of the same name.

The film’s instrumental music, known as an original score, was composed by Ari Balouzian. “On Video” sits apart from that score as a standalone closing song, heard as the credits roll.

The collaboration builds on an existing working relationship. Oppenheim previously directed the video for Bridgers’ single “Lost Boys.”

A24, the studio behind the film, lists Primetime as a 2026 release on its website, according to A24.

For fans, this means two firsts arrive together. Listeners get a film-specific song made for the closing moments of the story, while viewers will see Bridgers on screen for the first time in a role rooted in a real person.
