The Simpsons will open its 38th season on Fox on Sunday, Sept. 27 with a story built around children's books.

The half-hour episode is titled "The Children's Book Job" and airs at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the 8:00-8:30 p.m. slot, according to listings detailed by Animation Magazine. Marge steps in as the new PTA president. She is organising a school book fair as part of a benefit to stop Springfield Elementary from closing.

Oscar winner Emma Thompson guest-stars as Constance Clavinger, a children's book author who comes to Springfield for the benefit, as reported by Variety. Colin Jost also appears as himself. He reads his own children's book to an audience at Springfield Elementary.

The episode moves through several familiar book worlds in a Homer daydream sequence. It features takes on The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Richard Scarry's universe, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Captain Underpants and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Behind the episode, Dan Vebber is the credited writer and Matthew Nastuk is the director. Executive producer Matt Selman spoke to Variety about the season, while co-executive producer Mike Price developed the premiere story idea with Vebber.

More Season 38 episodes are already dated and described. "Diary of a Chimpy Kid" airs Oct. 4 and follows Bart and Lisa adopting a baby chimp. "The Kosmic Kruiser" traps Bart and Lisa in an abandoned immersive theme park experience. Another episode, "Testing 1-2-3", will focus on neurodiversity.

For fans, this means a busy start to the season. New stories arrive weekly in the Sunday slot, with guest voices and parodies built for viewers of all ages.

Away from the broadcast, Jack in the Box has launched a limited-time The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror menu, according to a company announcement carried by Jack in the Box. The range includes Krusty-inspired offerings tied to the annual Halloween special.
