The Platinum trophy in Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be much easier to earn than the one in Rebirth.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the team is deliberately lowering the bar for the third game in the remake trilogy, which is due out on 8 April 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Eurogamer.

A Platinum trophy is the award given on PlayStation for unlocking every other trophy in a game. It is the mark of a completionist, someone who finishes not just the story but the side quests, hard-mode battles and mini-games as well.

Only about 2.6% of players unlocked Rebirth's Platinum, Hamaguchi said in an interview with Anime News Network. For Revelation, he expects 20 percent of players or more to be able to reach it.

That gap is no accident. Hamaguchi said Rebirth's Platinum was difficult by design. The team wanted players to go through all of the content and perfect it.

The problem was demand. Hamaguchi said the team underestimated how many people would actually chase the Platinum. When those players hit Rebirth's toughest combat challenges, the reaction was strong.

Battle director Teruki Endo felt bad about it afterwards, Hamaguchi said. He had regrets after seeing the fan response.

The lesson, Hamaguchi said, was to make battles enjoyable rather than just challenging. He also said the side content in Revelation will be more engaging compared with Rebirth GamingBolt.

Revelation closes the trilogy. Square Enix describes it as "The final battle to decide the fate of the world has begun," with the party taking to the skies and standing with companions against Sephiroth Square Enix.

For fans, this means less repetition. The goal is still 100 percent. The grind to get there should hurt less.
