Marvel's Wolverine patch adds off switch for scent trails

Wolverine's nose is now optional.
Marvel's Wolverine patch 1.001.006 gives players a way to switch off scent trails. The control sits in the Gameplay menu as three separate toggles, Eurogamer reported on 28 September 2026. A patch, in games terms, is a downloadable update that fixes faults and adds features after release.
Scent trails are part of Wolverine's heightened senses, the in-game system that lays glowing trails and sound cues across the world to lead Logan toward points of interest. The trails help with tracking. They can also fill the screen when a player is simply exploring.
That is where the new choice comes in. One toggle covers Whiskey Bottles, the collectible set hidden around the map for completionists. A second covers Material Crates, and turns off both the scent trails and the short audio pings linked to those crates, which hold resources for progression. A third covers Nightmare Doors, and turns off both the scent trails and the root-like markers tied to those doors.
The toggles do not remove the sense system altogether. Senses stay active during story-critical moments, so required tracking sequences still play as designed. Players will still see guidance when the plot depends on it.
The change builds on a recent softening of the effect. Update v.01.001.005 revised the look of Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, including lower opacity that made the markers fainter and less dominant, according to Insomniac support notes published on 25 September 2026. Players who found the full glow distracting got a lighter touch first. Now they get an off switch as well.
Patch 1.001.006 also includes stability work. It addresses several crashes, Polygon reported on 26 September 2026. That is the unglamorous side of a patch, the fixes that stop the game closing unexpectedly and help play sessions run cleanly. It is the settings page for how the game behaves, separate from picture or sound options.
For fans, this means more control over the look and sound of the hunt. Keep everything on for maximum guidance. Mix the three switches to customise a collectible run, or turn them all off for a clearer view.
