Kristen Stewart Reunites With Olivier Assayas for Spiritual World

Kristen Stewart will reunite with director Olivier Assayas for Spiritual World, a supernatural drama due to start shooting in February in France and Germany, as reported by Variety.
The film puts Stewart at the head of an international ensemble with Vicky Krieps, Riley Keough and Wagner Moura. Barbara Sukowa and Niels Schneider also join the cast, according to the same report.
Stewart plays Ada, a haunted, clairvoyant young woman troubled by mysterious premonitions, as described by Variety. The story is described as a supernatural drama, a label carried by The Playlist, and as being in a similar vein to Personal Shopper but steamier. Her character name was detailed by Ioncinema.
It is the third feature collaboration between the actor and the French film-maker. Stewart won the Cesar Award for best supporting actress, France’s top film prize, for playing opposite Juliette Binoche in Assayas’s 2015 drama Clouds of Sils Maria. She then took the leading role in his Personal Shopper, for which Assayas won best director at Cannes, as noted by Variety.
What makes this stand out is that continuity. Assayas has returned to Stewart at different stages of her career, and each return has shifted the shape of their work together.
Behind the camera, Paris-based producer Olivier Delbosc is reteaming with Assayas after The Wizard of the Kremlin. That earlier film starred Jude Law as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Paul Dano as spin doctor Vadim Baranov and Alicia Vikander, and world premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The shoot for Spiritual World is organised for February across France and Germany.
Arte France is co-financing the new film, meaning it is sharing the production cost in return for rights. The project is currently being developed by Delbosc without a French studio attached, according to Variety.
