Witcher 3 Remastered free upgrade out today for all owners

Every copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the world gets the free Remastered upgrade from today, 29 September 2026.
CD Projekt Red has clarified to Eurogamer that all versions that exist will move over to the new edition. The rollout begins at 11am BST. The date is the announced release date for the Remastered edition.
The upgrade covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Those are the current console and PC platforms for the game. A remaster, in plain terms, is a refreshed version of an older game tuned for current systems. The price here is simple: nothing.
The release also tidies up years of different editions into one place. The Complete, Game of the Year and base-game versions will become a single new standard version. That standard version includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the two earlier expansions, by default. An expansion is an extra story and area added to the main game.
Anyone who bought any past version can move to Remastered for free. That covers both physical discs and digital downloads. Players do not need to rebuy the game to stay current. They claim the new version on top of what they already own.
On PC, the free upgrade is available to all owners on GOG, Steam and the Epic Games Store, according to the original announcement on the official Witcher site. On console, it covers all copies on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The storefronts are simply the shops where PC and console games are sold, each taking a cut of each sale.
The timing also sets up what comes next. Songs of the Past, a third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, according to CD Projekt. That gives returning players a reason to update now. New players will arrive with the full story to date already in one package.
For fans, this means one clear starting point. There is no separate tier to work out, and no old edition left behind. Everyone heads into next year's expansion from the same version.
