Mubi takes global rights to La Mesías and Riot Police

Mubi has taken worldwide rights to La Mesías and Riot Police from Movistar Plus International.
The two dramas led 33 new deals unveiled by Movistar Plus International on the first day of trading at Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid, Variety reported on 30 September.
Worldwide rights, meaning the right to sell the shows on to broadcasters and platforms around the world, puts both titles on Mubi’s international slate. Variety had exclusively reported key territories for the agreement in July. The September announcement extends it across the globe.
La Mesías is a Movistar Plus Original, meaning it was commissioned by the Spanish pay group, from creators Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, known as Los Javis. It was produced with their label Suma Content and first aired in Spain in 2023. It stars Lola Dueñas and was selected for the Sundance and San Sebastián festivals, according to Broadcast Now.
Mubi had previously earmarked France for La Mesías, Variety reported in July. Calvo and Ambrossi most recently directed La Bola Negra, which won Best Director at Cannes.
Riot Police is a six-part series starring Victoria Luengo. It is the first premium TV series, meaning a high-budget drama made for television, from director Rodrigo Sorogoyen. It world-premiered at San Sebastián in 2020 and had already sold early to HBO Latin America and Canal+ in France.
A third Movistar Plus title also moved. The Anatomy of a Moment, a four-part series from director Alberto Rodríguez, was nominated for an International Emmy on 23 September. The show is co-produced with Arte France and stars Álvaro Morte. It has secured fresh distribution, meaning sales to local broadcasters, with RTP in Portugal, RTS in Switzerland, RTV in Slovenia and Cinobo in Greece.
For viewers outside Spain, this means two finished series get a second life. No new episodes were announced. The deal is about where existing shows can be watched next.
