Kings of Leon spell out lyrics with Earth in Weather Channel team-up

Kings of Leon have teamed with The Weather Channel for a lyric video for "Cold Blue Dawn" that spells out the song word by word with views of Earth seen from space.
The track comes from O My Beloved, the band's 10th studio album, scheduled for release on Nov. 6, according to Billboard. A lyric video is a video that puts the song's words on screen as the music plays.
Here, each letter of each lyric is formed by a natural feature photographed from above. Mountains, rivers, coastlines and farmland all become type. The result reads as a line of lyrics and a tour of weather behaviour and terrain at the same time.
The images come from NASA's Landsat program, which uses satellites to photograph Earth's surface. Landsat launched in 1972 and has since gathered millions of images of natural formations, which the video draws on to build the alphabet.
The pairing grew out of an earlier viral moment. The Weather Channel had posted a clip of moving weather formations set to "Pyro", Kings of Leon's 2010 single from the album Come Around Sundown. That post brought the two sides together for this larger project, which was put together with The Weather Company, the parent company of The Weather Channel.
O My Beloved is the band's first full-length self-produced album. It follows 2024's Can We Please Have Fun, which reached No. 35 on the Billboard 200. The new album was introduced with the single "My Whole World", according to Consequence.
Kings of Leon are also booked for the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, Texas, on Oct. 9.
What makes this stand out is the fit. Lyric videos are usually organised around graphics or performance footage. This one uses coastlines for curves and rivers for lines, so readers follow the song by following the planet.
