Anne Hathaway would take another championship for the New York Knicks over another Oscar for herself.

She made the call on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon while promoting her film Verity, in an appearance reported by Variety on 1 October 2026. Fallon set up the dilemma during Best Thing Ever, a game where he and a guest name their favourite things and agree to live without the ones that lose.

The show presents the segment the same way on YouTube, where it was uploaded as "Best Thing Ever with Anne Hathaway", a clip in which the pair decide what is best and what they will give up, according to The Tonight Show. When Fallon asked her to choose between winning another Oscar and seeing the Knicks win another championship, Hathaway chose the Knicks.

That was not easy. She said the way her nervous system was reacting to the choice was really intense. It got a big laugh in the studio. Five words, then a winner.

Fallon had backup. He handed Hathaway a jersey signed by Knicks forward OG Anunoby during the interview. The team has acknowledged her support before with a basket of baby gifts, which included a card reading "All my best" signed by Anunoby.

Hathaway is a regular at the Garden, the nickname for Madison Square Garden where the Knicks play their home games. She had been spotted there in the run-up to an earlier Tonight Show visit, when the team was in the play-offs. Work still gets in the way of fandom. In that April appearance, she told Fallon she missed the Knicks' Game 5 win over the Hawks because she was working, as reported by Yahoo Entertainment.

What makes this stand out is how quickly the bit turned sincere. A game about giving things up became a small confession of loyalty. The jersey helped.

The full segment is available to watch on the show's YouTube channel. It runs just a few minutes and plays as a straight back-and-forth, with Fallon pressing and Hathaway ruling things out. Verity talk aside, the clip gives Knicks fans one more celebrity convert to claim. Hathaway has made her allegiance clear.
