Anne Hathaway says doctor banned Hot Ones appearance during pregnancy

Anne Hathaway's doctor has banned her from Hot Ones while she is pregnant.

The actor said she was keen to take on the spicy-wing interview to support her new film Verity. Speaking on the Talk of the Townsends podcast, she said her doctor warned that the heat could bring on early labour, according to Variety.

Hot Ones needs little introduction for late-night viewers. Hosted by Sean Evans, it asks celebrity guests to answer questions while eating chicken wings that get hotter with each round. Hathaway wanted to do it because the show itself appears in Verity.

That link goes beyond promotion. Hathaway said she filmed a Hot Ones segment in character as Verity Crawford for the film. She ate the first three wings for real before the production switched her to dummy wings for the rest of the scene.

She has still not completed the full gauntlet. Real wings, full heat, start to finish. She said she might attempt it next year.

Hathaway is pregnant with her third child with husband Adam Shulman. The baby is due later in 2026, according to Variety. She has kept a busy public schedule during the pregnancy. Earlier in September she attended a Verity press junket in New York City in a red ruffled dress that accentuated her baby bump, according to People.

She has also spoken openly about the late stage of her family plans. In July she described the baby on the way as a "buzzer-beater," according to People. In August she addressed online speculation that she was faking her pregnancy, according to People.

Verity is scheduled to open in cinemas on Oct. 5 from Amazon MGM, according to Variety. Hathaway also plans to return in front of the camera in March 2027 to film Days of Thunder 2 with Tom Cruise.

What makes this stand out is the timing. Fans will see her eat wings on screen in Verity, but the real-life Hot Ones run will have to wait until after the baby arrives.
