Anthony Anderson will receive the Canopy Award at the 11th annual North Fork TV Festival.

The ceremony in his honour is set for 22 October in Greenport, New York. The festival runs over two days, 21 and 22 October, according to Deadline.

Anderson will use the session to talk through his career and answer questions from the audience. The format is simple. One actor, one room, no script.

The news was reported on 1 October. Anderson’s session falls on the second night of the festival. That puts the award night at the close of the two-day event.

The recognition follows a long run in front of Emmy voters. Anderson has collected 11 Emmy nominations in total. Seven came back to back in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

In television terms, that category covers a leading performance in a comedy series. Those seven nominations were for one role. He played Andre “Dre” Johnson, the family father at the centre of ABC’s black-ish.

That is seven consecutive years of recognition for the same part. It made Anderson a regular presence through the run of the network comedy. The festival honour now adds his name to a different list.

Past recipients of the Canopy Award include Kelsey Grammer, Christopher Meloni and Marcia Gay Harden. J. Smith-Cameron and Jeremy Sisto have also received the honour. Anderson now joins that group.

Grammer will also be part of this year’s festival programme. Screenings and panels will feature him alongside Melissa Navia and Kelly AuCoin. The line-up places Anderson’s award night inside a wider two-day schedule.

The festival’s “In Talks With” strand adds another layer. It debuted at the 10th festival in 2025, according to the North Fork TV Festival. The site describes six one-on-one conversations held over two days in a private room at The American Beech Hotel, with access exclusive to Gold Pass holders.

For fans, this means a rare chance to hear the work explained by the person who did it. Not a clip. Not a speech. A conversation with room for follow-up questions, and stories from the set.

What makes this stand out is the mix. An award, a career interview and new screenings sit side by side. Viewers can watch what is next and then ask someone who has done it for years how it gets made.
