The music for Aaron Sorkin's Facebook sequel will be heard first. The soundtrack for The Social Reckoning, featuring music by Alexandre Desplat, is set for release on Oct. 9, Variety reported.

The film is written and directed by Sorkin. It stars Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Bill Burr and Jeremy Strong, with Strong playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

That casting marks a change from the first film. Jesse Eisenberg led The Social Network in 2010, while Strong takes the role in this follow-up. Madison plays former Facebook engineer Frances Haugen. White plays Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz.

The story sits at the centre of recent history. The film draws on the Facebook Files, a 2021 investigative series that revealed the company's behaviour, including harmful effects on teens and its role in spreading misinformation.

Desplat recorded the score, the original music written for the film, with a full orchestra. The sessions took place on the John Williams Scoring Stage at Sony Pictures Studios. The album includes the track The Lament featuring Renee Fleming.

The project had been on the industry's radar for months. The Social Reckoning is a Sony film, listed by The Hollywood Reporter, and was earlier cited as a possible contender for the Venice 2026 lineup.

For fans, this means a first listen before a first look. The album lands ahead of the film and offers the earliest sense of its tone.
