Walton Goggins will join Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in Universal's Miami Vice '85, Deadline reported on 1 October 2026.

The film is directed by Kosinski. It is set for a theatre release on 19 May 2028.

Sources cited by Deadline report that Goggins will play one of the henchmen working for a cartel king played by John Leguizamo. That places him inside the organised crime story at the centre of the film.

Leguizamo is part of a wide ensemble. The cast also includes Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone and Danny Ramirez alongside Jordan and Butler.

Behind the camera, the screenplay is by Dan Gilroy. It is based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich, with Eric Warren Singer having written an earlier draft, and the film is produced by Dylan Clark and Dylan Clark Productions alongside Kosinski.

The project takes its lead from the pilot episode of the 1984-90 NBC series Miami Vice. That two-hour opener introduced the undercover cops and neon-lit Florida setting that defined the original show.

For fans, this means a large cast split across both sides of the law. Goggins adds another familiar face to a line-up that already mixes film leads with rising actors.

The production will be filmed for Imax, the giant-screen format that uses larger cameras and screens. Goggins' deal was completed once scheduling with his series Fallout was worked out, according to the same report.
