Vince Staples has a message for music critics: albums aren't supposed to be perfect.

The rapper said it during a recent episode of his weekly Apple Music radio show, 5 on Fridays With Vince Staples, Billboard. He aimed the remark squarely at critics. Listen fully before you judge, he told them.

The episode is part of his return to Apple Music Radio as a weekly presenter, Complex. The programme carries his name in the title and goes out under the Apple Music banner. That means listeners hear Staples in the host seat, introducing songs and sharing his views between plays. It is his space to speak without a filter.

His target was the quick dismissal. Staples criticised people who write off new albums without giving them a chance. In plain terms, he was talking about instant reactions, the posts and comments that appear within hours of a release. His argument was for patience. Give a record time to settle.

The comments came as attention turned to his latest offering, titled Cry Baby. Billboard identified Cry Baby as his newest release. Staples said perfection was not the point. An album, in his telling, does not have to be flawless.

For listeners, this means the show is more than a playlist. It is where Staples answers back. Fans tuning in on a Friday hear new music alongside his take on how music is discussed. Newcomers do not need background to follow it. The idea is clear without music-industry knowledge.

Apple Music Radio works like traditional radio delivered through streaming, live or on demand through the app. An artist-hosted show sits inside that lineup. The host chooses tracks and talks, much like a DJ, except the audience is global and can replay the episode.

He spoke in both roles, as show host and as an artist with new music out. He fronts the show each week and has his own new offering, Cry Baby, in circulation. He speaks as someone who makes albums and as someone who plays them for others. The message to critics came from that position.

Episodes of 5 on Fridays With Vince Staples are available through Apple Music.
