The broader context here is that the Pro versus Pro Max choice has narrowed to comfort and power budget. There is no separate camera system, no exclusive silicon bin, meaning no faster chip reserved for one model, and no color or material difference to force the larger phone. The choice is screen area against one-handed use, and an additional 1,335 mAh and its associated playback headroom against 38 grams.
In my view, that consolidation is pragmatic. It lets Apple keep one thermal and camera architecture, or core cooling and camera design, across the Pro line while using body size as the variable for sustained load and longevity. For users who run navigation, capture, tethering and on-device processing through a full day, the Max buys margin. For users who prioritize pocketability, the smaller Pro no longer requires accepting a lesser camera or chip. Over the long arc, that kind of parity tends to expand what people attempt on the smaller device, since the constraint is now endurance rather than capability.
