Love magazine has shared a new Grand Theft Auto 6 image of Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval holding up a diner.

The artwork shows the pair seated in a booth with pistols drawn and an empty duffel bag beside Lucia. The framing recalls the opening diner robbery in Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction, according to Gamespot.

Jason and Lucia are the game's two leads. Rockstar Games describes them as criminal partners who have always known the odds are stacked against them, with Lucia fresh out of prison and determined to change them in her favour.

Lucia Caminos is the first female protagonist in the Grand Theft Auto series to be playable with a voice, backstory and leading dialogue, according to LOVE magazine. Her full name and that of Jason Duval were confirmed in the magazine's posts around its Rockstar Games feature.

The writers behind them spoke to Love about building flawed people rather than crime-film types. "We wanted both protagonists to be vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes, able to learn from each other," writer Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern said.

Fellow writer Alexa D'Agostino added: "When you are focusing on writing a fully realized person with their own wants, you're going to get something perfectly imperfect–with clichés, but also undeniably real."

For anyone new to the series, this matters because Grand Theft Auto 6 is built around that relationship. It is a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style story about two lovers on the criminal path, played solo as a single-player experience, a story played alone rather than online.

The setting is Vice City, the series' fictionalised stand-in for Miami. The story will also take players outside the city to other parts of Florida.

Rupert Humphries, Senior Vice President of Narrative, described that state as a place where astronomical wealth and unbounded ambition meet to create "a pressure cooker for all kinds of insanity." He said building a version of today's world for the game "has to be more over the top, more insane, more in your face" or "you could just go outside and live in the real world," according to LOVE magazine.

Grand Theft Auto 6 has an announced launch date of November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games put pre-orders on sale from June 25, according to Rockstar Games. A companion release, Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, is due on the same November date.

The run-up is already spilling into sport and print. The Miami Heat will wear Grand Theft Auto 6-inspired jerseys and play on a Vice City-referencing court on November 18, the night before launch. Love said its Issue 27 featuring the Rockstar team will be on newsstands on 5th October.
