Dave Grohl joins AC/DC for Highway to Hell at Power Up Tour finale

Dave Grohl walked on stage with a guitar and joined AC/DC for “Highway to Hell.”
The moment came on Friday, 2 October, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It closed AC/DC’s Power Up Tour, which began in May 2024, according to Rolling Stone. Singer Brian Johnson introduced Grohl to the crowd before the band started the 1979 track.
Grohl stood stage right and played rhythm alongside Angus Young. The song runs on a simple, hard-driving riff. The stadium sang the chorus back.
The Foo Fighters had already played that night. They were the opening act, the band that plays first to warm up the crowd for the headliner, for the rescheduled finale. The tour’s usual opener is the Pretty Reckless.
It was their second time filling that slot. The Foo Fighters also opened for AC/DC in St. Louis on 8 September when the Pretty Reckless were not on the bill. That gave Friday’s pairing a direct precedent.
Friday’s show was not the original plan. AC/DC had scheduled MetLife Stadium for 25 September. The band moved it to 2 October because of a nor’easter along the East Coast, a storm system that brings strong winds and heavy rain to the region.
AC/DC confirmed the change on its official website on 28 September under the heading “New Jersey Concert Rescheduled.” A day later, on 29 September, the band followed with a second item headlined “AC/DC TO BE JOINED BY FOO FIGHTERS AT METLIFE STADIUM.” MetLife Stadium listed the final date for 2 October with a 7:00 PM start and the Foo Fighters on the bill, according to MetLife Stadium.
Doors opened at 5:30 PM, with parking lots open from 2:00 PM. The stadium sits across the Hudson River from New York City and hosts large concerts alongside American football. Friday’s crowd filled the bowl for the last night.
The Power Up Tour supported Power Up, the group’s 2020 album. The run was organised around that record and finished after more than two years on the road.
For fans, this means the tour ended with two full sets. Footage of the “Highway to Hell” performance was widely shared after the show, as noted by Blabbermouth. The finale paired a closing headliner set with a guest appearance from the band that had opened it.
