SNL's Weekend Update Takes On Cornell Controversy and Glee Reboot

Michael Che put Cornell University, Washington politics and a possible Glee comeback through the Weekend Update wringer on 3 October.
Weekend Update is Saturday Night Live’s spoof news desk, where the hosts trade headlines and jokes. The 3 October edition was hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che, the show’s long-running pair, NBC. They are in their 11th season together at the desk as part of SNL Season 51, which covers 2025-2026.
Politics came first. Che and Jost cracked jokes aimed at Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and President Donald Trump’s vendetta against CNN, Deadline. No policy was announced. The lines landed as quick hits in a longer news roundup.
Then Che turned to Cornell. He addressed the controversy at the university and referenced a sexual assault case there. He tried to pull Jost into the moment. Jost refused to play along.
“Stop cutting to me,” Jost said when Che asked him to comment on the Cornell topic. That was it. Short. The show moved on.
The other big target was Glee. Che addressed creator Ryan Murphy’s decision to bring the musical series back, after Murphy said he had “just finished” a script for a reboot. Cast member Kam Patterson joined Che and Jost at the desk for the bit and expressed enthusiasm for the revival.
For fans, this means the reboot talk is now late-night fodder as well as a development story. No network, cast or airdate was confirmed in the segment. The joke was the excitement itself, with Patterson playing the eager fan at the desk.
