RuneScape Reignited launches 2 December with fresh economy

Jagex will launch RuneScape Reignited on 2 December, a permanent new way to play its long-running online game from scratch.
Reignited was announced at RuneFest 2026. It arrives as a character type, meaning players create a new character under a separate set of rules rather than joining a temporary server, according to Eurogamer.
Everyone starts at zero. Reignited characters get a brand-new economy and hiscores, the ranked leader boards that track skills and achievements. There will be no paid progression available for them.
They will still play in the same worlds as existing characters. That keeps the community together while the new characters trade, earn and climb separately.
All Reignited characters will get free access to members' content for the first 10 days after launch. Members' content is the subscription-locked part of the game, with extra quests, areas and skills. After that period, normal membership applies.
The launch is part of a larger update. Reignited, The Adventure Guide and the next Remastering RuneScape update will arrive together in a single update on 2 December. Remastered content here means older quests and areas rebuilt with updated visuals and design.
Jagex detailed the plan in its official news article, 'RuneScape As It Was Always Meant To Be', published on 3 October 2026, according to Jagex. The studio said it will share a more in-depth preview of the Remastered Journey before the update launches.
Reignited will also include unclaimed world firsts, giving new characters a chance to be the first to complete certain feats. Jagex is framing the mode around progression, challenge, community and meaningful rewards.
The studio said it will share more about rules and cheating before the December launch. That detail matters for a fresh economy, where trust in fair play shapes prices and racing for records.
For players, this means a clean start without leaving old friends or old characters behind. New ledgers, new races, same worlds.
