Jagex has cancelled RuneScape: Reignited less than two weeks after revealing it.

The mode was announced at RuneFest 2026 alongside RuneScape 4, according to TechPowerUp. It lasted barely a fortnight in public before the studio pulled the plug.

Reignited was planned as a fresh-start game mode for RuneScape. Players would have created new characters kept apart from the main game.

That separation was the core idea. Reignited accounts would have traded only with each other, in a separate player economy, meaning a closed market for buying and selling items. They would also have been barred from fighting bosses alongside regular RuneScape accounts, Eurogamer reported.

Jagex confirmed the cancellation in a blog post titled 'Reignited: An Update From Mod Ryan', published on 15 October 2026, with an accompanying YouTube video featuring associate creative director Mod Ryan. In the post, the studio said it had missed the mark and was not moving forward with the project.

The reason given was player feedback. Jagex said response after the reveal convinced it to stop work on Reignited.

The studio has since added notices to its earlier Reignited blogs stating they are no longer up to date because the project was cancelled. Those posts include updates published on 3, 6 and 9 October 2026.

For fans, this means the fresh-start experiment is over before it began. The main RuneScape game is unaffected, and the separate Reignited economy and boss-fighting rules will not go ahead.
