Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has set a new series high on PC, peaking at 52,694 concurrent players on Steam.

The peak, the number of people playing at the same time, came on Saturday, one day after the official launch on 2 October 2026. The figures were reported by Eurogamer. That timing matters. It means the high arrived after the three days of early access had ended and all players could join in.

Developed by PROJECT ACES and published by Bandai Namco, the game continues the long-running arcade flight series where players fly fighter jets through story-led missions. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The official launch on 2 October 2026 followed a three-day early access period for customers who had pre-ordered, a paid head start that has become common for large releases.

The new peak moves well clear of the previous series high on PC. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, the former leader on the platform, peaked at 13,758 concurrent players on Steam. Ace Combat 8 therefore drew more than three times that audience at its busiest moment, and now sits above all of its predecessors for peak concurrent players on Steam.

Early player reviews point in the same direction. The game held a Very Positive user rating on Steam, based on more than 5,755 reviews. That label is Steam's shorthand for a game where a large share of players recommend it, and the review count gives a rough sense of how many PC players have left feedback so far.

There has been one wrinkle around pre-orders. The Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War pre-order bonus cannot be played as a separate app and must instead be launched from inside Ace Combat 8. Bandai Namco has apologised for misleading store wording about the bonus and said it would explore potential solutions for affected players.

The release caps a short, clearly dated run-up. Bandai Namco offered the game in Standard and Deluxe editions, according to a company announcement published on 2 June 2026. Pre-orders placed before 2 October 2026 qualified for Early Access bonuses, including the head start. The game was first revealed for PC and consoles in a trailer at The Game Awards 2025, announced on 11 December 2025, when IGN reported that no release date was given.

What makes this stand out is the margin. The new game did not just pass its predecessor on PC. It nearly quadrupled the number, a clear jump for a flight combat series operating alongside much larger shooter and role-playing communities.
