Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has sold more than one million copies worldwide after little over a week on sale.

Bandai Namco announced the figure on 9 October 2026. The publisher said no game in the series has reached one million copies faster. That makes the new entry the fastest-selling Ace Combat to date. Bandai Namco Europe

The milestone covers sales across all platforms combined. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Those are the current-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft, alongside PC, so the launch did not include the older PlayStation 4 and Xbox One or Nintendo Switch.

The fast start has been matched by a warm reception from critics. Ace Combat 8 holds a Metacritic score of 87, listed under the site's Generally Favorable rating. Metacritic is a review aggregator, a site that collects critics' scores into a single average. Video Games Chronicle

That score places it as the second-best-reviewed game in the series. It sits narrowly behind Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies, the long-time favourite among reviewers. A gap of a point or two on Metacritic is small. It still leaves Ace Combat 8 at the top end of the series.

The result puts the new game on the heels of a strong predecessor. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown remains the biggest seller in the franchise. Bandai Namco said on 16 January 2026 that it had passed seven million units sold worldwide. The game had earlier passed five million units when its Deluxe Edition for Nintendo Switch was announced in January 2024. Total sales for the Ace Combat franchise have passed 21 million units.

What makes this stand out is the pace. Seven million took Ace Combat 7 several years of full-price sales, discounts and a later Switch release to build. One million in just over a week is a different kind of start. For players, it means a large online community from the first month, with more pilots to fly with and against.
