Imperfect Women Renewed for Season 2 Centred on Kerry Washington

Apple TV has renewed Imperfect Women for a second season centred on Kerry Washington. The renewal was reported by Variety on 5 October 2026. It keeps Washington at the centre and takes her character somewhere new. The news turns a one-off drama into a returning series.
Season 1 premiered on Apple TV on 18 March 2026, according to Apple. It adapted the book of the same name by Araminta Hall. The story examined a crime that shatters the lives of three women in a decades-long friendship. Washington starred alongside Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mara.
The first season was initially positioned as a limited series, meaning it was planned as a single self-contained story, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That description no longer applies. Season 2 will not draw on Hall's novel. It will be built from an original idea around Eleanor, Washington's character.
Eleanor returns to her hometown in Martha's Vineyard. Season 2 is set in the island's affluent Black enclave. Long-held secrets there threaten to upend everything she thought she knew about her past.
Washington will return to lead the season on screen. Moss will not reprise her on-screen role.
Creator Annie Weisman wrote and led Season 1 as showrunner, the person in charge of writing and day-to-day production. She will share the job in Season 2. Weisman and Justin Hillian will serve as co-showrunners, meaning they will lead the series jointly. Hillian previously worked on The Chi and Snowfall.
The producing line-up carries over. Washington executive produces, meaning she helps steer the show creatively and financially, through her company Simpson Street alongside Pilar Savone. Moss and Lindsey McManus executive produce through Love & Squalor Pictures.
That company originally optioned the book, meaning it first secured the rights for television. Hall also serves as an executive producer. Season 2 is produced by 20th Television and Apple Studios.
What makes this stand out is the switch. Season 1 closed out a book. Season 2 starts fresh with the same lead. For viewers, this means a reset, with Eleanor's hometown story next.
