Small Prophets, a BBC Two comedy-drama picked up by Apple TV, begins streaming with its first two episodes on 7 October.

The launch date was confirmed by Apple, which lists Season 1 as premiering on Apple TV in the United States on that date. Apple It is an acquisition, meaning the series was originally made for BBC Two in Britain and is now getting its Apple TV outing.

The series was created by Mackenzie Crook, the BAFTA award winner behind Detectorists. Crook wrote, directed and co-stars in Small Prophets, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Crook is credited as the writer and director of Detectorists, and co-star Pearce Quigley also appeared in that series.

Quigley stars as Michael Sleep, a man from the Manchester area. His life has been on hold since his girlfriend went missing seven years ago, Apple TV programme notes say. That wait ends soon. Apple describes the show as a comic tale of the eccentric Michael Sleep.

Crook plays Gordon, Michael’s boss at a home goods chain store. Michael Palin plays Brian, Michael’s father. The wider cast listed for the series includes Quigley, Lauren Patel, Palin, Crook, Paul Kaye, John Pointing and Shola Adewusi, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Patel previously appeared in Waterloo Road.

Apple unveiled a trailer for the series on 30 September, a week before launch. Apple Small Prophets was earlier named among 10 standout international shows in The Hollywood Reporter’s Series Mania Hot List, which called it Crook’s new sort-of sitcom.
