Gates McFadden to Write Dr Crusher Comic for IDW

Dr Beverly Crusher is getting her own comic. The actor who played her is writing it.
Gates McFadden will write Star Trek: Crusher, a limited comic series — a story told across a set number of issues — for IDW Publishing. The book is due in summer 2027, Variety reported on Oct. 6.
It will be McFadden's first comic-book script. Artist Megan Levens will draw the series, with Charlie Kirchoff on colours.
The story fills a gap in Crusher's life. It picks up after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis and leads into McFadden's return in Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard.
McFadden knows the character well. She played Dr Crusher across six of seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, appearing in more than 150 episodes. She then carried the role through four big-screen outings: Star Trek Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection and Star Trek: Nemesis, before returning for Picard Season 3.
What makes this stand out is the voice behind the page. Actors revisit famous roles. Few get to write what happened in between.
For fans, this means one more piece of a wider publishing push. IDW will also publish Star Trek: Zero Point, centred on Commander Raffi Musiker, beginning Oct. 14. The announcements follow six decades of the franchise, which began when the original Star Trek premiered on Sept. 8, 1966.
