Gears of War: E-Day headlines the first wave of Xbox Game Pass additions for October, with Battlefield 6 to follow within a week.

Microsoft detailed the line-up on 7 October. Game Pass is the subscription service that offers a rotating catalogue of games for a monthly fee, playable on console, PC and by streaming. GameSpot

Two games are available now. Gears of War: E-Day is live for Cloud, console and PC. Minecraft Dungeons 2 joins it, also for Cloud, console and PC.

Three more arrive on 8 October. Echo Weaver, Forever Ago and Neon Abyss 2 all land on Cloud, console and PC on that date.

The next batch lands on 13 October. Battlefield 6 arrives for Cloud, console and PC. It is joined by Deep Dish Dungeon and Valor Mortis, both for the same three platforms. Valor Mortis is a first-person soulslike, a tough action game in the mould of the Souls series, set during the Napoleonic Wars era.

That is a busy fortnight. Two further games arrive on 15 October: Bluey's Happy Snaps and Chained Beasts, each for Cloud, console and PC. The list also includes Beyond These Stars, a day-one release — meaning it enters Game Pass on the day it goes on sale — about building a city on the back of a Space Whale.

E-Day had a staggered launch. It was scheduled for a 6 October release on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass as a day-one title. Premium Edition owners could play up to five days early from 1 October, with early access opening at 8:00 a.m. PT / 15:00 UTC. The game has gone gold, industry shorthand for the final version being finished, and is also available on Steam. Xbox Wire

There are departures too. Several games leave the service on 15 October, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Evil West. Members who want to keep playing them will need to buy them separately.

For players, this means choice arrives in waves rather than all at once. Check the date beside each title, and finish anything you want to keep before the 15 October clear-out.
