Xbox Game Pass rolled out its first wave of August 2026 additions on August 4, and the lineup is stacked: a Gears of War multiplayer beta, a day-one release from the studio behind Pokémon, and a pair of retro shooters making their subscription debut.

The headline grabber is the Gears of War: E-Day open beta. Early access opened on August 6 for anyone who pre-ordered the game on Xbox Series X|S or Steam, or who holds a Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription, according to Xbox Wire. Pre-ordering also unlocked the Exfil Dom Character Skin and the Exfil Weapon Skin Set. The beta opens to everyone on August 13. E-Day itself launches October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC at a suggested retail price of US$69.99, and arrives on Game Pass day one — meaning subscribers can play the full game at release without buying it separately.

Two day-one releases anchor the wave. Beast of Reincarnation, the new title from Game Freak (the Japanese studio best known for the Pokémon series), joined Game Pass on August 4 for Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld devices, and PC. Sandustry, another day-one addition, also arrived this month.

Heretic + Hexen, the twin first-person shooters originally released by id Software in the 1990s, joined the service on August 4 as well — available across Cloud, Console, Handheld, and PC. The pair joins the Game Pass Premium tier alongside Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Several more titles landed across August 6 and 11. PowerWash Simulator 2, the sequel to the surprise cleaning-sim hit, arrived on August 6 for Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Monsters Are Coming! joined the same day across Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Handheld, and PC. Bounty Star, Date Everything!, and Grounded 2 (in Game Preview, an early-access programme for unfinished titles) all followed on August 11. Grounded 2 is the sequel to Obsidian Entertainment's survival adventure about shrunken teenagers in a backyard.

The week of August 12 brought Ball x Pit and Cricket 26, with Mio: Memories in Orbit arriving on August 13. Xbox also teased Egging On as part of a second wave of August additions, with details still to come.

As games arrive, others leave. Four titles — including Aliens: Fireteam Elite and Firewatch, the 2016 narrative adventure from Campo Santo — are scheduled to leave Game Pass on August 15, 2026. Subscribers who want to keep playing those games after that date will need to purchase them outright.

What makes this wave stand out is the spread. A blockbuster beta, a name-brand studio's new IP, a nostalgic shooter package, and a handful of indie and mid-budget titles all landed in the same week — a reminder that Microsoft's subscription library cycles through games at a pace that keeps the catalogue moving, for better and sometimes for the games leaving it.
