Jennifer Beals and Katheryn Winnick will lead Murder in Cold Country, a Lifetime Original movie due to debut in winter 2027. Deadline reported the casting on 7 October 2026.

Beals plays Detective Maya Lewis, a Miami-based detective who relocates to Alaska. Winnick plays Detective Joanna Doyle. The setting is stark. The story puts the two detectives at its centre.

The film is based on a story by Tess Gerritsen and Dan Rosen. Gerritsen is the creator behind the Rizzoli & Isles books and television series. Gerritsen and Rosen also wrote the screenplay, with Greg Beeman attached to direct.

Bruce Harvey is producing for CMW Valley Productions Inc. in association with Studio TF1 America. Executive producers are Stacy Mandelberg, Timothy O. Johnson, Meghan Hooper White, Gerritsen and Rosen, according to the report.

International rights are handled by AEGM, meaning sales outside the United States. The movie will be showcased to buyers in October at MIP, the international television market.

For viewers, this means a finished detective story built around a new pairing. Production gives a writers' room and a crew work through to delivery, and a slot already set for next winter.
