Three films first made famous by Steve McQueen are on their way back to the screen at the same time.

The trio — The Thomas Crown Affair, The Getaway and Bullitt — are all in development as remakes or fresh stories built around the old characters, according to The Hollywood Reporter in a report published on 7 October 2026. It is an unusual cluster. One star's work from the 1960s and early 1970s is now feeding three separate productions at once.

Furthest along is The Thomas Crown Affair. Michael B. Jordan is directing the film and starring in the lead role, the same report says. He completed shooting in 2025 and was in the editing stage ahead of a planned March release. That means the footage is shot, but the final cut, sound and picture are still being shaped.

Adria Arjona co-stars, and the picture is scheduled for release in March 2027, according to Fox News. McQueen led the original 1968 film. Jordan's version is the second remake of that story after a 1999 take starring Pierce Brosnan.

Next is The Getaway. Philip Barantini is attached to direct a new version for Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Barantini directed Adolescence, as detailed by The Hollywood Reporter in May. In plain terms, a remake keeps the basic setup of an older film and tells it again with a new cast and crew.

The first film was a 1972 bank-robbery drama directed by Sam Peckinpah, and McQueen met future wife Ali MacGraw on that production. Netflix would release the new version on its streaming service rather than through a traditional cinema-first rollout.

The third project centres on Bullitt, the 1968 cop drama. Steven Spielberg's Amblin is developing a film around Frank Bullitt, McQueen's San Francisco detective character. It is conceived as a new storyline about the detective, not a direct remake of the earlier film. Bradley Cooper is said to be attached to star as Bullitt. As background, Deadline reported in November 2022 that Cooper had closed a deal to play the role for Spielberg, who is set to direct.

There is a fourth thread in the background. My Husband, My Friend, a memoir by McQueen's former wife Neile McQueen, has been under consideration in Hollywood for nearly 20 years as a possible documentary or scripted adaptation.

For fans, this means choice. A stylish heist, a crime chase and a city detective story are all being rebuilt for new audiences at the same time, each with a different lead team behind the camera.
