Amazon MGM Studios has released the public trailer for The Thomas Crown Affair, with Michael B. Jordan directing and starring as the suave cat-burglar at the centre of the story. The film is dated for theatrical release on 5 March 2027, as reported by Variety.

Jordan plays Thomas Crown, the role originated by Steve McQueen in the 1968 film and later taken on by Pierce Brosnan in a 1999 remake. Adria Arjona co-stars as a former FBI agent on Crown's trail, and Kenneth Branagh plays a supervillain — a new antagonist layer for a property that, in both previous versions, hinged on a love story between a thief and the investigator pursuing him. Drew Pearce wrote the screenplay, working from an earlier draft by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson.

The trailer actually had its first outing months ago. It screened for industry attendees at CinemaCon, the annual Las Vegas convention where studios show footage to theatre owners, back in April 2026. The public release this week puts the footage in front of audiences for the first time.

Jordan arrives at the project with fresh Academy credentials: he won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Ryan Coogler's Sinners, per Variety. Adding a directorial credit on a major studio release extends a path he began with Creed III — actor-director on an established franchise property.

Behind the camera, the producer roster bridges the old and new guard. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo produce through their Outlier Society banner, alongside Charles Roven for Atlas Entertainment. Alan Trustman, who wrote the 1968 original screenplay, serves as executive producer on the new version — a direct line from McQueen's Crown to Jordan's.

For a property that has now been adapted three times across nearly six decades, the creative team is pushing the premise into different territory. The Branagh villain role suggests a scope closer to a heist thriller than the intimate cat-and-mouse romance of the earlier films. Whether that formula lands will be a question for audiences — and for the box office — in March 2027.
