Lil Wayne says he and Drake are sitting on years of unheard music together, including songs from 2014 and 2015 that have never been released.

He talked about the material on the Oct. 6 episode of The Joint Venture, in conversation with co-host Craig Carton, according to Billboard. Wayne put it simply. The two have “a whole bunch of unreleased material.”

Wayne said the archive is not gathering dust. He told Carton he goes through drives and files of unreleased Drake material every other day. That means opening old hard drives and folders, listening back, and picking out pieces to rework.

The process is hands-on. Wayne said he edits the music himself. He then sends the new versions straight to Drake’s phone for a quick listen.

Drake’s reply, as Wayne tells it, is direct. “When we dropping this?” Wayne said Drake asks each time he hears a reworked track. Wayne did not name any of the songs in the discussion. He did not announce a release date or a joint project.

That detail matters for listeners. Talk about unreleased songs does not mean a release is scheduled. It means the recordings exist and both artists are still hearing them.

The gap since their last release adds to the interest. Lil Wayne and Drake have not released a collaboration since 2021. That is five years without a new joint track on record.

Their most recent shared appearances both came that year. They featured together on Nicki Minaj’s “Seeing Green.” They also linked up on “You Only Live Twice,” a track from Drake’s album Certified Lover Boy that also featured Rick Ross.

There is also a past example of a collaboration that almost happened. Drake and Post Malone were supposed to appear on Wayne’s song “What About Me,” according to Complex. That line-up did not make the final released version.

For fans, this means there is more in the vault than what has come out. Some of it dates back more than a decade. Whether any of it will be finished and released is still an open question.
