Paul Schulze and Tony Macht have joined Apple TV's upcoming dramedy Beat the Reaper in recurring roles.

Details of their characters are under wraps, Deadline reported on 7 October 2026. Recurring means they will appear in multiple episodes without being billed as main cast. Their roles are secret.

They join a growing ensemble led by Will Poulter as Dr. Peter Brown. J.K. Simmons was previously announced alongside Damon Herriman, Stephanie Nur, Artoun Nazareth and Molly Price. Herriman, Nur, Nazareth and Price are series regulars, meaning they form part of the core credited cast.

The series is a dramedy, a mix of drama and comedy, based on the novel of the same name by Josh Bazell. Poulter plays Brown, an intern at Boston's worst hospital with a talent for medicine, according to a character description carried by Variety. Poulter is a BAFTA winner and Emmy nominee and also serves as an executive producer.

Sam Catlin adapted the book for television and acts as showrunner, the day-to-day creative boss, as well as executive producer through his overall deal with Apple TV. Apple Studios is the studio. Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann and Laura Delahaye executive produce for New Regency, with Rachel Toffler as co-executive producer. Apple TV announced the series order on 18 December 2025, according to an Apple TV press release.

For viewers, this means the ward is filling up. The lead and the main hospital team are set, and now the wider faces around them are being added.
